Aberlour 18YO is matured in both Sherry butts and Bourbon barrels for the full maturation period before being subtly mixed together when the casks come of age. This is very different to many other Malt Whiskies who are ‘finished’ in Sherry butts for a few months after their main maturation period in Bourbon barrels.
Aberlour 18 year old is now one of the stars of the range with a great textured mouthfeel.
A deeper sherry influence adds more spiciness and a liquorice tang. Greater age adds body and develops the distinctive fruitness to a rich raisin character.
